After 26 years of exhibiting at the wonderful British Craft Trade Fair, it is time to say farewell.
BCTF is the only trade fair that I have consistently shown at through my career, so it seems apt that it is my last ever. The decision to retire from hot glass making in 2020 is not a financial one, but the need to give my body a rest after 34 years of continuous making. It’s just time to do other things.
BCTF has been such an influence on my success, not just through the orders, but the contacts I have made with buyers and makers who have now become friends. The atmosphere, the size of the event and being outside London, means the emphasis is on the makers and their work – rather than simply the show itself. I would recommend this exhibition to any quality craft maker/designer, because that’s why the buyers come back year after year, they know they’ll get the best British work.
I shall miss the camaraderie of the exhibitors and the organisers, Margeret and Philip have been excellent – I’ll never forget meeting them in the layby off the M1 to collect the box of glass I had left behind after packing up! It’s that above and beyond attitude that counts, thank you.
(Of course I’ll be tempted to come for a look round next year to catch up with everyone, so this may just be au revoir?)
Thank you so much for an amazing event, and thank you for the photograph. The organisation across the year and in the lead up was great and really helped my first step into trade. I had an incredible three days and never did it cross my mind as we stood in the hall on Monday evening that I might be recognised for an award so I was so incredibly humbled when I was, not once but twice!
Thank you for everything.
With kindest regards
This was my second show and I'm completely overwhelmed by the support I received from buyers, fellow exhibitors and the organisers. It’s been an amazing show and I picked up loads of orders. It's such a positive, creative buzz, such a great place to do trade business I have already booked for the next show.
I hope you and the team are now fully recovered from the show – I know it’s taken me a while!
I just wanted to thank you and the whole team for your efforts in putting on the event, which was a great success for me. As a direct result of BCTF I now have 12 new retailers on board and feel that the event has been a real springboard for Humblewood. I’ve had many comments about how rare it is for a newcomer to be so successful. Your use of our images, produced by Richard Jackson, certainly helped and was appreciated by both of us. It seems that BCTF has provided a great basis for Humblewood’s wholesale journey!
You may not remember, but you initially contacted me a year or so ago about attending BCTF, but I didn’t feel we were ready. I am so glad that I have now taken that step and thank you for your faith in Humblewood. I’m already planning for next year!
Very best wishes
Hello again Margeret,
Firstly, thank you for such a fantastic experience at BCTF2018.
I received encouraging feedback throughout the event, not to mention the thrill and excitement of winning the ‘craft&design Highly Commended Newcomer Award’!
What’s more, we’ve also received several orders as well as invitations to forthcoming exhibitions, all of which we attribute to our attendance at BCTF2018.
Hope you had a safe journey home and have managed to relax after busy days.
I just thought I’d drop a line to say thank you so much for all your support on BCTF.
I am very glad that I have returned to the show.
I was not quite sure if I did well or not at that time I spoke to you on the last day, but I had a second thought and signed up for next year at the last minutes!
Back home I looked at the details of my received orders, and I am happy to say that I think I did very well.
I could not have done it without your encouragement right from the beginning. So thank you so much.
Looking forward to seeing you next year.
I had the loveliest time exhibiting @bctf_harrogate, it was a fabulous show and a real privilege to exhibit my jewellery amongst such talented crafts people. I am very excited to be sending collections out to new stockists over the next few weeks.
Really pleased to announce that the Platform Gallery were a sponsor of the British Craft Trade Fair in Harrogate last week. After over 20 years of attending the @bctf_harrogate to find new and exciting makers for the Platform Gallery's exhibition programme and Craft Shop it was a great honour to work in partnership with their team. What a year to start the award, the standard was really high with hundreds of makers creating stunning stands.
Just wanted to say thank you for organising the event and having us at the BCTF. We had a good time, there was a nice vibe between stands and it was great to see the amazing work of all the other artists.
I just wanted to say thank you for your vote on my award, I was absolutely blown away to receive 2 awards and has definitely given me the boost to keep going and giving it my all.
Had a really great show and met loads of great people there so thank you.
