Gneiss Rugs are sumptuous handmade rugs, handwoven in Farfield Mill, Sedbergh, on a peg loom, one of the oldest forms of weaving. The rugs are made from selvedge gathered on the Isle of Lewis. When Scottish highland tweed is cut from the loom, the strips left are gathered and called selvedge. It is this bi product that we use, thus the rugs are made from the very highest quality wool. We are very pleased to be upcycling something that would otherwise go to landfill. The style of weaving is based on the gneiss rock formations which can be found on the Isle of Lewis. Different sized bands of colours imitating nature's natural beauty. People comment on just how thick and luxurious they are. Each rug is individually designed and thus unique.
